Jericho Ditch is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Daniel Turner. The show is made of several charcoal drawings
and one sculpture. The center piece of the exhibition lies a collapsed set of sooted fire place irons upon a slab of
polished marble. Forming the basis for much of his work is the consideration of presence or absence, both in history and
the present. His works are a dichotomy – a blend of caustic materials (ranging from soot, vinyl, liquid aluminum and
kerosene) on or encased between surfaces that remain formally reflective and eloquent. Turner's work often projects a
sensual yet calming severity, providing the viewer with neither physical nor psychological solace.
Turner was born in Portsmouth VA in 1983 and currently lives and works in New York NY. He has been the subject of solo
and group exhibitions including The Union Gallery, New York, NY; USSA Fine Arts, Brooklyn, NY; Chrysler Museum of Art,
Norfolk, VA; Hermitage Foundation Museum, Norfolk, VA; Gregory Lind Gallery, San Francisco, CA; Contemporary Art Center,
Virginia Beach, VA; Preteen Gallery, Hermosillo, Mexico; Walter McBean Gallery, San Francisco, CA
and Boulevard es Brezsnyev Gallery Budapest, Hungary. He is the recipient of three major grants from The Virginia Museum
of Fine Arts.
Join us Tuesday September 15 at 10pm for a opening reception at Jericho Ditch.
